1. Suggestions or Comments about this web site
Attorney Gregory A. Hession has provided this general information about family law, restraining orders, and juvenile law at his own expense, in order to try to be a blessing to parents who have been treated so unjustly by the system. He is continually adding to the material, and is always glad to get criticism or suggestions for improvement. Feel free to comment in the box below.
2. Handling Your Case in Massachusetts
If you want Attorney Hession to take your case in Massachusetts, please read this material first:
We do restraining order defense, DCF court and administrative cases, high stress custody cases, and criminal defense and civil cases related to these things, in Massachusetts only, just about anywhere in the state.
We are not a legal aid service or foundation which gets grants, but a private law office with one attorney and one paralegal. So, we have to charge for our services, and cannot do pro bono (free) legal work. The material on the web site is free, and hopefully will give you some help.
We cannot answer questions about your case by email unless we represent you. We get thousands (yes!) of requests for help a year, so we just can't do it. We can only give advice if we meet you, review the paperwork, and actually figure out what is happening in your case. If we gave advice by email without knowing all the facts, we could cause you problems and it would be unethical, so we won't do it. Please don't ask.
The cost of a restraining order case starts at about $600 and up, depending on the situation and the preparation needed. The cost of a DCF case is quite variable, depending on whether you just need help to make them "go away", or do a full-blown trial, which can cost many thousands of dollars.
If you want to represent yourself in a restraining order case, check out our program "Win Your Own Restraining Order Case in Massachusetts", which you can click on the front page of our site. Other programs to fight custody cases, DCF cases, child support, etc., are in the works.
3. Cases outside of Massachusetts
We do not have a registry of good lawyers who know how to fight these cases around the various states in the country, but it would be great if we did. Also, we don't know of any good advocacy group available to help people in these situations. One is desperately needed, but not in place yet.
Attorney Hession is only licensed in Massachusetts, so he cannot give you legal advice or represent you in any other state. Please do not ask him to give you advice by email on your case, because he does not know the rules in every state, and it could cause you problems if he tried to do it without meeting you, reviewing the paperwork, and knowing the local laws.
He can, and has, done a limited number of cases in other states when a local lawyer can sponsor him, and he can learn that state's law. It requires that the client bear the cost of travel and a place to stay while there.
4. Miscellaneous
Please show that your request is important enough for me to read, by using regular English words, grammar, punctuation, sentence structure and capital letters. I get way too many messages in long run-on sentences, with no capital letters using internet slang, and I have stopped trying to figure them out.
Thank you for letting us know what you think!
